Emanuel Medical Center Foundation was established in 1972. Charitable gifts to the Foundation advance the programs and services of Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with the goal of improving the health of the community and the region.Legacy Emanuel Medical Center provides acute and tertiary care to the city and the region. Founded in 1912 by the Lutheran Church, the hospital is recognized as a medical pacesetter and is well known for its trauma, emergency and intensive care programs. Legacy Emanuel is also the largest provider of hospital charity care in the region. Major programs include: Level 1 Trauma Center, the highest designation for emergency care Oregon Burn Center, the only verified burn center in Oregon Inpatient and transport-based extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program Hyperbaric medicine program High risk obstetrics intensive care Cardiology, Neurosurgery and Orthopedic Surgery Injury prevention programsSome of the specific projects funded in this period included:Provided emergency medications, durable medical equipment, transitional housing, and other health-related supplies to uninsured, under-insured, and low-income patients.Funded training and equipment for the ECMO program at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.Provided burn prevention and education program to power industry, healthcare agencies, and the broader community.Supported burn camp and other activities for burn survivors.Provided Stop the Bleed training to teachers/staff within area public high schools and provide life-saving hemorrhage control kits to the schools that receive training.
