SHELTERING, REHABILITATING, AND FINDING HOMES: IN 2024, SHS (SISKIYOU HUMANE SOCIETY) ASSISTED MANY ANIMALS IN FINDING THEIR FOREVER HOMES. WE INCREASED OUR ADOPTIONS FROM 291 IN 2023 TO 322 IN 2024, WITH THE CAT ADOPTIONS RISING FROM 154 IN 2023 TO 213 IN 2024. OUR ADOPTION CENTER IN MT SHASTA IS NOW OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK WHICH HAS INCREASED OUR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AS WELL AS HAVING BOOTHS AT MANY LOCAL EVENTS. FOSTER PROGRAM: SHS IMPROVED OUR FOSTER PROGRAMS BY REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH MULTIPLE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS FOR FOSTER FAMILIES. WE PROVIDE ALL SUPPLIES AND SUPPORT FOR OUR FOSTER FAMILIES. KEEP THEM HOME PROGRAM: OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR LOW INCOME AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES NEEDING ASSISTANCE TO AVOID SURRENDERING THEIR PET DUE TO LACK OF RESOURCES. WE OPENED OUR COMMUNITY PET RESOURCE CENTER IN YREKA IN 2023 TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES TO PET OWNERS IN NEED. WE OFFER PET FOOD AND SUPPLIES AT THAT LOCATION AS WELL AS AT OUR ADOPTION CENTER IN MT SHASTA. BEHAVIOR TRAINING AND COUNSELING: SHS PROVIDED FREE BEHAVIOR CONSULTING FOR CATS AND DOGS TO PET OWNERS. WE PROVIDED TRAINING AND MANAGEMENT INFORMATION TO PET OWNERS TO ENCOURAGE SOLUTIONS OF PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIORS AND RETENTION OF PETS IN THE HOME. PET DEPOSIT PROGRAM: SHS ASSISTS SENIOR CITIZENS BY PAYING THEIR PET RENTAL DEPOSITS SO THAT THEY CAN KEEP THEIR PETS. EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: WE PROVIDED SHELTER TOURS AND IN HOUSE EDUCATION PRESENTATIONS TO LOCAL STUDENTS. WE ASSISTED COUNTY WIDE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS AND WELCOME STUDENTS FROM COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM FOR THEIR WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS. WE HAVE INCREASED OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND NOW HAVE MANY REGULAR DOG WALKERS AND KITTY SOCIALIZERS THAT IMPROVE THE LIVES OUR OF OUR SHELTER PETS WHILE THEY ARE WITH US.
