Highlighted achievements are as follows: - Healthy Living Festival/HLF Promotion of healthy living and successful aging with advance registrations of 3400 for this event on September 28; there were 96 exhibitors, 2750 lunches served, and 2215 admissions to the Oakland Zoo - Technology Access 39 devices provided to seniors, support for WeConnect that (about 167 attendees), September 28 HLF (about 3000 attendees), and doctors from the county and a nonprofit health provider on February 17, October 6, and December 20 (about 16 attendees); there were about 5,477 outreach contacts- Age Friendly USOAC supported the efforts of the Alameda County Council for Age-Friendly Communities, which focuses on digital equity/inclusion, housing security, healthcare access and resource for older adults- Senior Services Coalition/SSC USOAC participated in the efforts of SSC as a proud coalition member to advance public policy that will make a positive difference in the quality of life for Alameda Countys aging population - Walkable Neighborhoods 4 Seniors Our Walk Club Committee (about a dozen participants) works to encourage walking for physical and mental health, to improve neighborhood walking conditions, and to champion pedestrian safety; some concerns included sideshows, block sidewalks, street lighting, street repairs, blight, etc; a major action was conducted on August 11 for seniors living St. Pauls Towers in Oakland with Oakland officials to address the dangerous Bay Street pedestrian crossing affecting the entire community, including the school, the senior center, and others- California Alliance for Retired Americans/CARA USOAC is a dues paying member of this statewide organization focused on improving conditions for California aging adults; as a small grassroots nonprofit organization, USOAC recognizes the effectiveness of strengthen in organized numbers through CARA - Senior Public Transportation Training & Education Program This is a major component of senior empowerment for USOAC through travel training, which allows aging adults to maintain independence, mobility, and reduce both isolation and depression; there were 2,808 outreach contacts, 164 seniors participated in a mini-travel training, 85 seniors in group travel trainings with 45 of them fully completing it and getting a certificate- Senior Nutrition Advocacy Committee USOAC convened this committee regularly each month to monitor and support the senior food providers on dealing with food insecurity among older adults in Alameda County- Eden Area Senior Action Group USOAC organized seniors mainly in the unincorporated area to have a voice in concerns that affect their lives by meeting nearly every month on their issues
