In 2024, APEN informed Richmond community members about issues related to health risks and air pollution, and engaged youth in local resilience efforts. APEN was a member of key coalitions advocating for resiliency projects to be included in the $10 billion climate bond which California voters approved in November 2024. This work was part of APEN's limited lobbying activities conducted in accordance with IRS rules governing 501(c)(3) organizations. APEN also participated in educational statewide efforts to raise awareness about the negative health impacts of living near toxic sites for working Californians. Through a nonpartisan civic engagement program, APEN contacted over 5,000 Californians throughout the state in multiple languages, by phone or in their neighborhoods, to share information about these issues.
