VIC HAS SERVED OVER 277,000 MEALS, MONDAY-FRIDAY WITHIN THREE MULTIPURPOSE CENTERS ACROSS THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY IN DIVERSE COMMUNITIES, INCLUDING THREE SENIOR CENTERS, 10 DINING SITES, AND HOME DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM WITH RESTRICTION OF AGE OR INCOME. 800-1200 SENIORS ARE SERVED DAILY BY THE THREE COMMUNITY CENTERS, SITES AND MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM. A HOT, NUTRITIOUS LUNCH AND ACTIVITIES ATTRACT SENIORS TO THE CENTERS FOR IMPORTANT SOCIALIZATION NEEDED TO OFFSET THE GROWING NATIONAL EPIDEMIC OF ISOLATION, LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION. RECENT RESEARCH IS SHOWING DEPRESSION IS THE MOST IMPACTFUL DETERMINANT IN DECLINE OF ONE'S HEALTH.

VALLEY INTERCOMMUNITY COUNCIL (VIC) IS A WELL-ESTABLISHED NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION SERVING THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY FOR 60 YEARS. WORKING WITH THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES, OTHER PARTNERS AND STAKEHOLDERS, VIC PROVIDES CRITICAL SOCIAL SERVICES INCLUDING MEALS AND AN ARRAY OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS ACTIVITIES TO RAISE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND WELLBEING OF OLDER ADULTS, 65 YEARS OR OLDER. THOSE OF LOW-INCOME, THE FRAIL AND ELDERLY, AND THOSE TEMPORARILY DISABLED OR CHRONICALLY ILL, ARE THE FOCUS OF VIC PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. VIC PROVIDES RIDES TO ELIGIBLE SENIORS THROUGH ITS TRANSPORTATION SERVICES PROGRAM. CENTERS HAVE THREE TO FOUR VEHICLES EACH THAT TRANSPORT SENIORS TO THE CENTERS FOR MEALS AND ACTIVITIES AND TO THE DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS MONDAY-FRIDAY.
