Mission

RKDCs mission is to promote the understanding of and to create a passion for the art of contemporary dance, making it accessible to both seasoned and new audiences. MISSION AND PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS July 2024-June 2025:RKDC provides professional concert dance performances and dance education programs, residencies, and community workshops in both of its home communities of Wichita, KS and Torrance, CA, where the company was originally incorporated in 2001. In July 2024, the professional company presented outreach programming and a commissioned performance at the Wichita Art Museum, while RKDC also facilitated a summer intensive for youth, adult, pre-professional, and professional dancers focused on contemporary dance training and repertory from the companys work. In August 2024, the company returned to Wichita to prepare for a performance at the Orpheum Theatre, and in September 2024 traveled to Kansas City to participate in the New Dance Partners project, commissioning and developing a new work by a guest choreographer. In November 2024, RKDC produced a repertory concert in Wichita, KS and premiered the new work Nest. In February 2025, the professional company created and distributed the dance film series Love Letters, which was released online for free and viewed internationally. In May 2025, the professional company performed an outreach program for the grand opening of the Westlink Branch Library in Wichita, KS. Throughout the year RKDC provided youth dance classes in Wichita and Torrance, facilitated Golden Grooves movement classes for older adults in Wichita, mentored four youth performance groups that perform at community events and senior living facilities, and presented lecture demonstrations and master classes at Wichita State University, sharing repertory and engaging students through performance and discussion. The organization also produced two student showcases in November 2024 and March 2025 in Torrance, CA with more than 600 students participating.
